Description

Coyote Stories is a citizen science project that aims to gather Vermonter’s accounts of wildlife, while helping high school students develop social science fieldwork and analysis skill. The project also aims to offer educators an opportunity to assess their students’ progress towards VT’s proficiency based education standards. UVM PhD candidate Joshua Morse leads the project, visiting high schools around the state and offering a two class-session program to prepare students to conduct interviews in their home communities and to interpret the data they gather. The project is supported by a National Geographic Society Early Career Educator’s Grant, a UVM Jeffords Center Grant, and small grants and in-kind contributions from the Vermont Trappers Association, Cold Hollow to Canada, and Vermont Folklife Center.

Coyote Stories interviews are intended for a range of uses including academic research. Per standard practice in human dimensions of natural resources studies, this collection keeps the names of interviewers and interviewees anonymous.
