Description

Collection Descritpion
The Richard Brick Collection conisists 91 audio recordings created between 1973-1975 in Chelsea, Vermont as a part of the filming and production of the documentary, Last Stand Farmer (1976). Audio recordings include interviews with farmer Kenneth O’Donnell, the documentary's primary subject, and his wife, Helen as well as ambient sound recordings of activities on their farm. Audio recordings were created by Richard Brick. Interviews were conducted by Richard Brick and photographer, Suzanne Opton. Additionally the collection includes 10 audio recording created as a part of the post-production process of the film for transcription and film synchronization, MSS material, a 16mm print of the film, and a DVD copy of the film.

Note on original analog sound recordings
All original analog audio recordings in the collection are on open reel audio tape. The majority of the collection (Series 1 and Series 2) consists of 91 field recordings on 7 inch diameter reels of Scotch 3M 208 polyester tape recorded at 7 1/2 ips, full track, mono. The collection includes ten additional recordings created as a part of post-production (Series 3 and Series 4) for transcription and sound sync.  Tapes AU2010-3159, AU2010-3160, AU2010-3161, AU2010-3162 in Series 3 make reference to recordings--"Sound Roll" 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19--that have not been identified in the original series of field recordings. This suggests the duplicates on these tapes might be the only extant versions of those seemingly missing recordings. At this time (7/2013) the VFC archivist has not verified if indeed this is the case.
