[Singing starts at 0:41]

Lord Bateman was a noble lord
A noble lord of high degree
He grew weary and discontented
Until he taken a voyage to sea

He sailed east and he sailed west
Until he came to the Turkish shore
Where he was taken and put in prison
Until his life was almost o'er

All by this prison there grew a tree
And there it grew up tall and strong
While he was chained a by the middle
Until his life was almost gone

Turk had an only daughter
The fairest did two eyes did see
She stole the key of her father's prison
And toward Lord Bateman to bring set free

[Atwood cannot recall remaining lyrics]
