Browsing

The database can be browsed in two ways, from screens containing lists of terms pulled from specific fields such as Last Name, Image Contents, Background Features and Photograph Type and from within the individual records themselves.

Browsing Selected Fields

From the main navigation screen select the field you would like to use the database content:

Last Name: Used by Neil to capture the last names of people featured in each photograph as well as the names of businesses, farms and community organizations.

Image Contents: Used by Susanne to index the content of images, including details like hats and beards, fabric patterns and the like.

Background Features: Used by Susanne to index background aspects of images, including household decorations, architectural elements and related items.

Photograph Type: Formal distinctions in the photographs, including Portraits and Landscapes and other focused concepts like Group and Family portraits.

Browsing from Within Records

One can also browse the database from within records.  In the record screen, keywords listed within database fields are hotlinked.  Clicking on a hotlinked keyword will query the database for that term, returning all records where the term appears in that field.

For Example:

Clicking on the hotlinked term “tree” in the database field “Contents Keyword(s)" will return every database record where “tree” appears in that field.
