Miscellaneous Notes

PHOTOGRAPH - Rachel agreed to the first portrait Neil did of her, inside in the winter, only if he would come back during the summer and take an outside picture with Haystack in it. She had polished her white shoes for the picture, and she had polish all over herself which she did not realize and, fortunately, it cannot be seen in the picture.

INTERVIEW EXCERPT

Rachel:

"My fondest memories are of the days of my childhood in Spanktown. It was like we were all brothers and sisters and, of course, I only had one sister anywhere near my age, and so there were some young men and young women and we all grew up together. It was just like one big family. We all went to the brick schoolhouse down here. And that's where I got my education, what I got."
