The content and structure of this song suggest that it is either a traditional locally composed song from Quebec, or a popular song from the early 1900s. The only other known documented version of this song is a version collected in 1976 from Marie-Rose Clouthier, a traditional singer from Saint-Jules in the Beauce region. Her setting of this song appears in song collector Marc Gagné’s book Chantons la chanson (Ste-Foy: Les presses de l’Université Laval, 1985, p. 197).

Abstract
My well-dresed friends went to the party, but I, in rags, stayed home; to comfort myself I drank brandy and whiskey; when I was drunk I went upstairs to sleep it off, but fell down the stairs; in my anger I broke my glass and my jug and by the milkbarn was dizzy.
