Description

French language song text from VFC2006-0002 Beaudoin Family Collection. MS2011-3223-053 Alice Lacourse Danis Songbook. Pp. 56.

“Flic! Flac! Floc! Dans l’eau” (“Splish! Splash! Sploosh! In the Water”). This is an original popular Quebecois song with words by abbé Robert Provost and music by abbé Gérald Beauregard (1914-2001). It is virtually identical to the version published in the La Bonne Chanson (vol. 5, p.239), the ten-booklet series published between 1938 and 1954 by Quebecois priest, musician, publisher, composer, and impresario abbé Charles-Émile Gadbois (1906-1981). Both Provost and Beauregard were colleagues of abbé Charles-Émile Gadbois at the St-Hyacinthe Seminary in Quebec. The exact date of composition is unknown; the song appears to have first been published in the fifth album of Gadbois’ La Bonne Chanson series in 1946. Provost and Beauregard collaborated on at least one other song which Gadbois also published in this series.

Abstract

[refrain: his two feet in the stream, splish, splash, his two feet in the stream, splish, splash]; a beggar cooling his sore feet in a stream gets his bunion bitten by a toad.
