“Dansant avec les yeux plein de larme” [“Dansant avec les yeux pleins de larmes”; “Dancing with My Eyes Full of Tears”] is a French-language setting of the 1930 popular American song, “Dancing with Tears in My Eyes,” with music by composer, pianist, and actor Joe Burke (1884-1950) and lyrics by renowned Russian-born Al Dubin songwriter (1891-1945). The French-language setting is credited to “Deyglun”—probably the work of playwright and actor Henri Deyglun (1903-1971), who was born in Paris in 1903, but spent most of his life in Montreal where his plays were widely performed. In 1930, Montreal tenor Ludovic Huot recorded Deyglun’s setting under the title “Dansant avec les yeux pleins de larmes” for the Victor (issue #263750, side A).

Forsaken sweetheart dances with tears in her eyes, as she watches happy couples including her former love with a new partner.
