Miscellaneous Notes
Mother and son - they have left Pawlet since this picture was taken. Myrtle recalled an image from her childhood in West Pawlet. Every morning she was awakened by the slate quarry gangs on their way to work: she could hear the tromping of the men's hobnail boots; and she could hear their voices singing work songs in their various native tongues - Welsh, Irish, Italian, Polish - a virtual Babel of song!
